Late fall and winter is the time of year when more people will experience seasonal influenza (the flu). The best ways to avoid getting sick are yearly flu shots, frequent hand washing, and good cough and sneeze manners. These same simple precautions will help to slow down the spread of a pandemic. An influenza pandemic happens when a new influenza virus appears for which people have little or no immunity.
